Workshop description

1. The workshop begins with a short explanation of the background of calligraphy in Japan and characteristics of different types of calligraphy you are likely to see during your visit.

2. Next, you will start the hands-on section of the workshop by becoming familiar with the tools used in calligraphy, such as the brushes, ink, and ink stone. After you practice a few basic brushstrokes, you are ready to create your souvenir!

3. The instructor will assist you in designing a calligraphy piece that will be meaningful and unique to you. Don't worry! Designs range from simple to complex, so no matter your skill level, anyone will be able to find something that looks great.

What is included in a 1 hour workshop fee?

  • Tools
    • brush, ink, ink stone are provided for use during the workshop
  • 25 sheets of calligraphy paper for practice
    • you can take these with you when you leave
  • 2 Shikishi cards
    • 30 cm of square piece of high-quality display board for your souvenir
  • 1 Shikishi holder
    • used to display your souvenir in your home



How to pay?

We are afraid that we only accept cash. Payment should be given to the instructor at the beginning of the workshop.
